đź’ś Career Well-being: The 15-minute networking trick

Dear Thriving Introvert!

In this newsletter, I'll cover:

  • How to reactivate your professional network with zero awkward small talk

I constantly see questions from senior managers who feel stuck on one specific networking challenge: "How do I reach out to a former colleague I haven't spoken to in two years without sounding desperate or like I only want something from them?"

For an introverted leader, cold outreach takes massive mental energy. We tend to overthink the perfect phrasing, worry about being an inconvenience, and often end up doing nothing at all—leaving brilliant, hidden career opportunities on the table.

The secret to quiet networking is simple: Abandon the hidden agenda. You aren't reaching out to ask for a favor or a job referral right away; you are simply reactivating a "dormant tie."

đź’ˇ THE QUIET WIN FOR TODAY

Think of one former colleague, manager, or cross-functional peer you genuinely enjoyed working with in the past. Copy, paste, and customize this exact low-pressure script to send to them via LinkedIn message today:

"Hi [Name], it’s been a while! I was recently thinking about our time working on [Project or Company Name] and remembered how much I appreciated your perspective on [insert a specific skill or positive trait, e.g., handling chaotic launches / managing stakeholder expectations]. I hope you and the team are doing well. Let's catch up sometime soon!"

That’s it. No transactional ask, no pressure, and no forced, artificial updates.

By keeping it completely authentic and acknowledging that time has passed, you break the ice naturally. Most professionals are absolutely delighted to receive a message that highlights their value without demanding immediate action.

Why it matters for your well-being: Networking doesn't require you to be a loud self-promoter or attend exhausting professional mixers. Sending a single, genuine appreciation script lets you maintain a high-value network in under 5 minutes, conserving your energy while keeping critical career doors wide open.

Talk next Thursday,

When you log off, that same analytical energy turns inward onto your own career. You replay conversations in your head. You second-guess whether you...
